In the mid-1700s, settlers began staking claim on Jacksonville, North Carolina. The town grew around the local ferry system, moving once after a hurricane wreaked havoc on the area. It was not until nearly 100 years later, however, that Jacksonville received its official name.
Growth continued as the city was used as a main point for the shipment of important crops and naval stores. With the addition of Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base, families came flowing in, increasing the popularity of the area considerably. As population numbers grew, the area managed to maintain its welcoming atmosphere and tight-knit communication connections.
Year-round events help bring everyone together to celebrate all the things they love most about the region. Living within a quick drive of the coast gives residents plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures as well. Local temperatures hang around a comfortable range nearly all year, ensuring those adventure can be repeated each and every season.
